Actually, in 1990s and before, "android" meant a robot that looks like a human. That meaning is still there, but now, there is a GUI (graphical user interface) platform, operating-system (Apache-Harmony follow-up, Linux-based), too.
That has been popular with lots of manufacturers of phones and tablets (as of 2015). Application-developers and customers have been there, too, making it one of the two most-selling platforms for smartphones. Furthermore, the main rival of Android, Apple, is a single company, and therefore knows how many machines they have sold -- on contrast to whoever willing yyo load Android to machines they make and sell. Therefore, the ratio of Android-loaded machines (vs. Apple) may be more than known.
On the other hand, if you (or, I) buy those tablets mainly because the hardware is really cheap, then there may be (lots of?) machines sold as "Android" but now working with some other operating-system.
Furthermore, the available applications (content) for installing into Android, may also be more than known to statistics, because (unlike Apple) Android co-operates in "side-loading" the apps (that is, from a local file in your tablet (whether you programmed that or downloaded from internet), in contrast to having to install from Google's app-store). Therefore, the numbers of apps for android (in the race) is probably higher than what seems to be.
That is, there may be more Android-loadedly-sold machines than known, and there may be Android-based apps that are not listed at Google"s app-store.
Not exactly, but there are ways to make it more secure. There are at least two major options for that. Firstly, you may look into the software for finding the bugs, because the software is openly readable. For example, that was in the news that, some other company had found hundreds of security-troubles in Android, and they were (or, would be) publishing their own version of Android. I have not seen their list of troubles (or, bugs), but as long as you may allow some app to access both internet and to your data, there is (almost) no software solution. You may try, by hiring personnel to read (& maybe derive formal proofs of) all of those apps, too, if their source codes are available, at all, but there may be updates of those softwares, and all that may overburden your personnel.
The other option is to simply isolate your internet-machine from your private-work machine(s). If you would like to carry data back-&-forth, between the two, then you may opt for a firewall hardware. Then again, if you would think of buying some off-the-shelf firewall, that may be expensive (I have not looked up the prices, though), and largely untested (because of not being too popular), and worse, as long as the two sides that are talking are Windows and Android (or, whatever not-totally-secure platform), then something that goes to the other side, may transform itself to a trojan (virus, etc).
Therefore, I may suggest you to write your own little humble firewall suite, complete with the rules/permissions for what sorts of transactions, and file-types you transfer through that.
By the way, you may have heard of the almost-never-ending "security updates" of Windows (another platform (not Android) that is more popular at desktop and laptop machines). In fact, a Microsoft manager, when they were about to expire the support for their older Windows version, WinXP, was making that an argument, for motivating people to buy a newer Windows version, that is, because (after all those years of security-updates), there may still be bugs there, which some hackers may exploit.
Apache Harmony was a free-for-all project. You could modify and sell and hide for yourself, too. But that project was discontinued after sometime. Google continued that within their own company with an open-source license. If you wish, you may continue from Apache Harmony, too, as that is still (or, ever) open for all purposes.
AndroidOS, as a Google enterprise, has been through many versions. Published (& "controlled") by Google, but because that is open-source, the source-code is readable and modifiable by (theoretically) anybody.
Google's business-model of publishing AndroidOS, is partly sort of a freemium model, because they are giving out that for free, but not all of the apps they sell at the Google Play store are free, and theref, they make money through whatever popularity the "for-free"ness has brought.
Google sells phones and tablets, too -- so, they have rivals, too, but having a popular platform for which lots of apps have been developed, may have increased their own marketing likelihood, too (that is, if rivals have caused generating more customers than they have taken away).
The founders of Google are Jewish. Google is now partly traded in the stock-market. Those stock-holders (outsiders) have probably no substantial control about which projects happen, nor about who may be placing what code into which project.
Maybe you simply dislike all Jewish people, or only the "court-Jews" (how Henry Ford's book refers to) who have been {close to) rulers of some nations (Rothschilds, sabbataists/sabbateans/frankists, Iranian-runaways, etc), or you may be hating Israel and whoever has Israeli-connections.
Various people turn out to be (practically, or openly) boycotting one/all of those categories (with or without relating that to further theories). For example, I remember from the times of the Danish "cartoon-crisis" that, there was the news that, a Danish farm-products-supplier that used to sell to Arab nations, had agreed to not to sell to Israel. Then (the news was that), when Arabs boycotted all of the products of Denmark, the Danish state persecuted that supplier for having made that agreement to exclude Israel.
So if you simply prefer to boycott whatever is Jewish or whoever has Israeli connections, then you may just boycott AndroidOS, too. But remember that Microsoft, Apple, and IBM also have Jewish employees, and probably more than a 2% (the "expectable" percentage, because that is the percentage of Jewish people in USA population), and Linux ("Linus" himself) is Jewish, too.
That is not all "bad news" for boycotters. AndroidOS is open-source, and Israelis will get nothing from you (unless you buy apps from app-market, maybe, and not buying their Nexus phones/tablets, etc). Furthermore, you may just program your own operating-system, if there is truly such a segment of market (customers who boycott Israel, etc).
Not to forget to mention that, in 2012, I actually would like to buy a tablet with Oberon in it, but DX.com did not have even a single one. I do not know why the Chinese have preferred AndroidOS so far, but Oberon had already been written for both Intel and ARM microprocessors. Perhaps, simply a firmware upgrade to those "AndroidOS"-tablets, will make those Oberon-tablets (or whatever operating-system you may write, or hire programmers for writing, how Google itself hires programmers, for programming such commodity (not quite novelty concepts) products). Furthermore, web-browsers (if with authoring) may resemble Oberon-like work, too. So, if willing to retain that, you may build your browser-based platform, too. (Oberon is not necessarily permissible for modifying (they expect permission-getting), but free for (personal) use. For other example, Amaya (of w3.org) is free for all purposes (but not Judenfrei, because there are some Jewish surnames in the authors & contributors lists), and (otherwise) could be a base for making your own web-based, embeddable-objects-container platform/tool.)
I guess that all (Jew-hater) pogrommers (and lots of other people) agree about two basic "facts of life," namely,
Lots of surprising facts, seem to support (at least, convincing lots of people) that, the Jewish-ghetto is actually continuing, but only having vastly spread, all over the public scene. For example, Hitler recalls in his "Mein Kampf" that, whenever the (Jewish) media would refer to somebody, if the opinion is favoring, the target is Jewish, but when antagonistic, the target turns out to be German. Ironically, the patented algorithm of Google search, may be the cause of what people think of as "Google favoring the Jewish sites" because probably more than any other people, the Jewish eyes see MAINLY each other (therefore, they inflate the page-reference-counts of each other), even through huge distances, seeing each other as if the governor of the "gentiles" ("goys") around, and the "legitimate"/"entitled" plunderer of the know-how of the non-Jewish "subjects" of him/her. (BTW, maybe because I'm not a chemist, but so far as I understand the case, Nernst solved the problem, but Haber got the Nobel for that, and school-books refer to that as "Haber process." Is that normal (other than the Jewish-propaganda being "normal")?)
The "Jews want to control the World." concern relates to the security question, too. See discussion of that. Furthermore, maybe you would like to "simply not pay a penny to Jewish companies" not to increase their power. But you have ways for using Android tablets, without paying a penny to Google (neither directly, nor indirectly), while Microsoft has Jewish (& evolutionist) personnel and managers, too. From news, various Jewish (& evolutionist) people are known in Apple, too.
In fact, Java (of Sun) had few (one?) in team (who later became CEO or something of the producer company, Sun, after Scott McNealy retired), but afterward, Sun was sold to Oracle, owned by a Jew. So, if that were your concern, you would firstly invest into a Java-based machine (when Scotch CEO), then abolishing, when Jew bought the company?
Firstly, if you think that mainly Jews are the thieves, and willing to have some (relatively) "Jew-free" (Judenfrei) operating-system, then you may start your own programming project along with like-minded friends (and with agreement that the project is not to hire, nor sellable to, a Jew). BTW, Oberon & (actual) Unix, probably had few Jewish people (& whose works may have been relatively isolatable, if known who has contributed which portion).
I generally think that, theft happens through thought-controllers (genies, and more-recent technologies), the antichrist gang, and I think sabbataists (with their ("Jewish mysticism") covenant with the satans, sound a lot like that way (heretical Jewish racists, who wish the World to be in worst-of-times) -- and such racists may be (and seem to be) lobbying into people's minds (a Jewish-lobby at its extreme) and probably carrying know-how (and maybe also the stories of how those were found/invented) to their (sabbataist-compatible) race-mates (while may be killing non-sabbataist-compatibles of those, when feasible).
"Sabbataist-compability" may be a relativistic categorization. For example, Judaists of Salonica were living along with Sabbataists till, in 1924, Greeks started ddeporting "the Müslims" out. But because those Judaists could not accept Sabbataists back (without violating their own religious laws, how Sabbataists had been ideologically violating), Sabbataists may have become genocidal against (those) Judaists, too. Thereoff, I guess, in concentration-camps, every Jew may have been repetitively questioned through thought-control, to find out whether they would finally become compatible with Sabbataists, and those who were unlikely to approve of the Sabbataist heresy, were the more likely to be killed (whether through remote-controlling the executioners, or (German-looking) Sabbataists/Frankists actually being there within the "German" ranks, too).
So, if you are suspicious about "some Jews" (or, even "most," maybe "all") Jewish publications (papers, patents, etc), that is understandable. But if that is what you believe, then how will you have sufficiently satisfied your conscience, by only (and leniently) "NOT using" AndroidOS tablets? That is, if lots of people have been victims of "zeitgeistly" thieves, then when the products of those victims are known, then you are expectable to conscientiously fight back against the thieves, by using those products, too (that is, to avenge in the name of the victim). If you have some other (and more sophisticated) weapons/tools (to fight back against those thieves), that is understood (similarly, if you are able to invent, by harming and not feeding the thieves (who may (try to) steal from you, too) further). But otherwise, to win the war, you are expected to utilize what you find available. Those papers and patents are there in the open for that. Now that those would have been trade-secrets (of the victims of the thieves), utilizing those in commercial causes (maybe other than against the thieves' companies) may be not exactly ethical, but in case of warfare-fitting (not money-making) know-how, the vice versa, the utilizing is the ethical (for avenging, punishing).
After all, those thieves are satanical, and they wish ruining the World. In case of Sabbataists, that is the two faces of the same coin. They think that if the-worst-of-times happens, their (charlatan) "messiah" will come back, and they would be (guess what!) "ruling"/plundering the World, openly. So, that who is bugging that victim (maybe bugging yourself, too) is there to ruin lives, while doing that (profitable-looking) theft. That theft is the tip-of-the-iceberg, to see, and thereoff, finding the thieves, who are the ruiners (and/or, their compatibles/favorites). BTW, this sort of logic applies to finding "Ph.D." charlatans, too -- as they are absurd cases of blatant charlatanism, the jury must have been abused (numbed, etc) through thought-control, and therefore I think that, having proven such absurdness, is a proof about thought-controllers, too. In summary, such a theft is not "only" a theft of the said material. Spotting such a case, may be priceless (if you had no other way of finding a hint to find the bugging evil gangs).
In other words, for example, if you find some AndroisOS tablet really useful, "but" you guess that AndroidOS may have been full of stolen content (from unknown victims), then you were supposed to be using that AndroidOS-tablet against those thieves and (maybe also) those to whom the content was carried to (maybe except in cases where the cause is that, ). Those thieves watched the privacy of that victim and carried his/her inventions/products to some (1) Jewish ("scientist" or) company (2) a conspirator, (3) somebody that would publish in a way that the thieves (or their race-mates) would coonveniently have access to, (4) to have second-opinions from other experts (if something is not immediately publishable/marketable as how that is stolen from the first victim(s)), or (5) rarely (if/when somebody is finally fighting against the thieves and their favorites, then), to stain someone who is not one of their own gang/favorites.
BTW, if children of Palestine would simply read the papers and patents of their opponents and rival to their new patents/companies, by using (commoditizing, cheaply) those older know-how (and Jew-boycotters would buy from those, or from similar Jew-opponents (sabbateans are Jews, btw, no matter how they yell from/against/to every corner, including Israel)), then that would be harsher than throwing stones, let alone wasting/ruining (eternally) oneselves through suicide.
The GUI paradigm is generally attributed to VannevarBush(non-Jewish?), IvanSutherland (non-Jewish?), Alan Kay(non-Jewish?), Douglas Engelbart (Jewish, "inventor of mouse"), Charles Simonyi (Jewish? "inventor of WYSIWYG word-processors"). Not new with Google, or Android -- but what had happened in the past, is not obvious to me. So, if the concern is not to be using some uncredited stolen trade-secret (through "zeitgeistly" theft), the question may remain open, yet. Android itself is not the/a big concern (actually, a commodity, not novelty), but if something stolen in previous decades, may have been still there.
Otherwise, by "theft," you consider a spy software bugging your work, then that again, is the security question. The Google-founders are not known as Sabbatean ("worst-of-times" wishers), but if you have reasons of guessing yourself a target of Israel, then their Israeli (or, other Jewish) connections may be what worries you (& then, just step up your security).
Because I'm (advertising) affiliate for DX.com, and because I live outside of USA, that is almost the single convenient option for me, & maybe for lots of others.
For example, if you would like to buy a tablet (computer) and your local shops do not have lots of option, or those they list are limited in number and expiring quickly (how that was the 2014-to-2015, year-end season), making suggestion to a relative, becomes messy. I was already thinking of affiliate-linking to tablets, too (but for just LCD of those, for arduino projects). Then, think9ing (again) of the wider availability of tablets at DX.com, I thought of making a webpage of that, too. Actually, next, I chose a single tablet for her (because I knew her wish-list, and that was also the lowest-cost ("cheapest") tablet, given that 3G (cellular) was optional, and neither trustable (across countries), nor necessarily legal (unless you have travelled abroad that year)). As a result, that is a tablet with black-or-white color options, and accessories -- and because that is a low-cost and conveniently buyable option, I find that a lot more satisfying than going out to "brick-&-mortar" shops and roaming around, talking with salespeople for having access to a sample of what they sell there, etc, etc.
Ironically (or, bizarrely), lots of shops of USA, refrain from selling, to abroad (some sell only books, others nothing, therefore, you have to wait someone to return/visit from USA, to bring your requests, and then you may thank him/her), and/or those online shops have other self-deleting conditions. Some of those (the book-seller variety) sell (Rush-die) satanical swears (some others share their bellies with those book-sellers, as their search engines list that book available through those book-sellers), yet others have restrictions against potential affiliates (Walmart forbids foreigner/abroad, RadioShack assigns a representative and with statement/proof of 5000 visitors per month, which is none of my business).
BTW, I had read that in the Civil War (1860s) dixies lost to yankies beccause yankies had technology while dixies had farms. Not necessarily the single explanation, but now that seems reminiscent (irony) of how USA is becoming service-oriented, while China having manufacture. But perhaps that is only in the consumer/commoditty market. (Other explanations have been proposed, too, for example, dixies were masters of "old style" (knightish?) warfare, while yankies were into new style of warfare. But in view of how "new style" has lost (given up) lots of wars, the "style of war" question is not seeming so "certain" how that was preached (for single-army, as opposed to guerillas) in the early 20th century.)
Lastly, but not necessarily the least, that is a chicken-&-egg question, when the question is "Why are you referring to DX.com WHEN TO SELL ANDROID TABLETS?" because if Chinese would load Oberon to those low-cost tablets, then I would not have bought Android for me, in 2012, in the first place. I bought Android, because that was the available in DX.com.
