A mosquito which bites and thus might inflict illness, is categorically the female sort. People present that bit, as if that were refinement in strategic knowledge, typically with "well-knowing" words such as "you should be killing only those women, because only they cause trouble."
-- especially, I might add, if the killing process is painful. For example, if with a laser that is not killing instantly, then the target would be perceiving the pain, throughout the burning process. In that case, it would be unnecessary cruelty, to kill their males.
But, their males facilitate that sucking behavior, in the loop. Females fertilize their eggs through males. They look around to suck blood, strictly after that (to mature their eggs with your blood).
Virgin birth (parthogenesis) might exist, too. But mainly, females conspire with males.
Furthermore, some of the contraptions which kill mosquito women, work by hooking into their male-finding lust. There, killing the rival males, gives advantage to the trap.
Yet others, have been (unsuccessfully) trying to craft genetically-sterile males. They would presumably also like the rival males to have been killed -- especially given that, this is indedependent from their genetic strategies, and even randomizing, because the machines would kill any which comes to sight, rather than a specific genetic configuration, and therefore, the targets would presumably be less able to adapt. (Allah knows best, though.)
Moreover, if the circuits (such as from How1901) to kill their males, would work continuously, while the circuits (such as from Bil1984) to kill their females, might work only when those women are looking out for mates, then the circuits to kill their males, might speed up killing that species (and perhaps more than those which kill women).
Hence, the wise thing, presumably, is to kill both sexes of mosquitoes
I am not closing the door against "hair-splitting," but the female-vs-male split is so far not looking as if a worth-to-list attribute to bother about. Other dynamics of their popular behavior, might come to question, as the fight proceeds. Let's start with the best strategy available, so far.
